other than a gun shot residue test i am not aware of any research on tempered glass to determine distance based on damage.
I hope this helps

Dear Sirs,
I am a newcomer here....but I read your posts in the forum from a long time and I've found them really interesting....so thank you very much for sharing your experience and knowledge!
...I have a question for you...maybe a bit odd....
...if an offender fires his pistol against human targets that sit inside a car and put his bullets through the car's tempered glass side windows...if the distance between the gun muzzle and the side windows is not too large...and if the side windows stay in their frame without collapse after the shooting...is it possible to have an estimation of the shooting distance between the offender and the car's windows?
...are there any papers about this subject?
All the best
Andrea
P.S.: please, excuse me for my poor english.
