I don't really know where to introduce myself, I guess this may be the place. Perhaps this forum is dead these days, I just figured I'de give it a try! I am a Business student at California State University Channel Islands (soon to tranfer to Cal State Bakersfield). I know, not related to forensics or criminal justice! I, like most of my family, have always had a passion in firearms and the whole outdoors/hunting scene. An avid gun collector/gunsmith, I have always enjoyed learning about the different fields in firearm related topics. So hopefully this is one! I can remember my first hunting experience in Idaho with my old man, I was only 10 years old and we went black bear hunting. Of course, I was the one who did most of the gutting (tried at least!) After digging through meat, fat and bone I found my .243 bullet mushroomed out on the oposite side of the entry wound ribcage. Since then Iv'e always had an urge to dig the bullets out of my animals! Iv'e come to learn about the trauma the bullets create in the different areas of tissue/vitals/bone. The impact a .243 bullet causes when compared to a .300 win mag. Or the difference a mild jacketed lead tip bullet will expand compared to a 70 year old steel core surplus round. Or the different sized bullet holes in various animals. For instance, we hunt a lot of wild hogs in certain areas arount here in california. Their hides are much thicker and tighter, which will almost always hide a .30 entrance wound with normal examination. Well i'm just rambling on here, I hope this can relate to what some of you study!

Welcome to the FirearmsID.com Community Forum!
We hope you enjoy using your forum. To post messages or reply to messages in the forum you will have to register. This is a separate registration from the Resource Area registration.
I've decided to place this forum outside of the Resource Area to allow visitors the chance to post questions if they have any problems with the Resource Area registration process.
I get a lot of bounced email caused by visitors registering for the Resource Area with bad email addresses. In a lot of cases the visitors don't realize they used a bad email address.
I will make every effort to monitor this forum but please understand that I stay very busy. I do have a day job working as a firearm examiner for the Kentucky State Police, I also serve as webmaster for the Association of Firearm and Toolmark Examiners (AFTE), I design/maintain a number of other websites, and I have a wife, two kids, a cat, and a house/yard to take care of!
So if I don't seem to be around for some extended periods please bear with me. I'll answer your questions as soon as I can.
I also welcome other firearm examiners and forensic experts to jump in and help me out when questions come up that you might be able to provide some expertise to.
I'm still working on the layout so some changes in appearance may occur over the next few days.
Thanks!
Scott Doyle
